IV Therapy Clinic

Post-Care Instructions & Resources

When will I feel it?

Many individuals do not “feel” anything their first time and results can vary from person to person. It is important to remember that IV nutrient therapy works on a cellular level, and even though you may not “feel” the benefit right away, your cells are being infused with nutrients promoting cellular healing and regeneration. Over time and with consistency in receiving services, you will start to “feel” the difference.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 / Emergency Services.

Feeling worse before feeling better?

Most services are designed to provide noticeable results anywhere from 24 – 72 hours after treatment. Be patient. It may take time, and changes are subtle. If this is your first service, you may not feel anything at all. Rest assured. Your body appreciates the nutrients and is working to prevent illness on a cellular level, so you may not feel a big difference your first time. Stick with it, and you may begin to feel the results within a few sessions.

How It Works

Nutrients work on a foundational level to support your body in its natural processes, this may take several sessions to notice a significant difference. This is different from pharmaceuticals, which are designed to provide immediate symptom relief, but do little to help balance and support the body in its natural healing abilities.

For Headaches

A minor headache after receiving services is typical for some and may be a sign of dehydration, detox, or that you may benefit from a service with less fluid next time you come in.

Relaxation and mood services with tryptophan are designed to relax you. It is typical to feel tired and decreased motivation after receiving your service.

Feeling Worse After Your Visit

To prevent you from feeling worse after your visit to an IV therapy clinic, it’s important to note that services with high doses of Vitamin C can be dehydrating. It’s essential that you hydrate with electrolyte-rich water well before and after service for optimal results and to prevent dehydration.

High doses of Vitamin C can cause false elevated levels of glucose in your blood. If you have a condition which requires you to read glucose levels in your blood daily please consider waiting 24 hours post service to obtain accurate results.

Increased Symptoms

If you are already experiencing symptoms of a cold or flu, your symptoms may “rise to the surface” after receiving an immune service. This is because the nutrients are speeding up the natural immune response of the body. Natural immune responses are designed to eliminate pathogens from the body, such as runny nose, cough, sweat, fever, loose stool, and more.

The purpose of the immune services is to speed up recovery time, not necessarily eliminate symptoms, as these symptoms are often the body’s natural defense strategies. Sometimes, after receiving an immune service, symptoms may increase, but recovery time is shortened. You may benefit from immune services daily for several days if you are already experiencing acute symptoms of cold or flu in order to speed up recovery.

Nip it in the bud! The best time to stop a cold or flu in its tracks is at the first sign of symptoms or directly following exposure to infected individuals.

What can I expect from my injection site?

A little bruise, minor pain at the injection site, dehydration, or being tired after an IV is typical. Use ArniCare to reduce minor swelling and bruising at the injection site.

Use NUUN Electrolyte tablets with half your body weight in ounces of water a day to prevent dehydration and maximize the results of your services at our IV therapy clinic.

What to do after an IV treatment

Most post-IV symptoms are just the IV nutrients working through your system. Increased or decreased energy, as well as increased or decreased appetite or sleep are normal in the first day or two after an IV. It is normal to be thirsty and occasionally nauseated.

Most importantly: Hydrate

Dehydration causes the most post-IV symptoms and concerns. IV therapy can be dehydrating as well, so one must hydrate before, during, and after the IV.

Symptoms such as headache, dizziness, dry mouth, joint stiffness, joint aches, and others often are due to a need for more water.

Sports drinks and coconut water can work, but electrolyte-rich water is the best.

If you experience nausea before or after your IV, have a high protein snack to eat right before or during your appointment at our IV therapy clinic. This is generally a good idea even if you do not have nausea with the IV.

When to call

If you experience any abnormal symptom other than headaches and nausea, or have any questions or concerns, please contact our clinic.

  • If any of the following are progressively worsening after your IV please call the IV therapy clinic:
  • Swelling over the injection site
  • Redness over the injection site that progresses and covers more area
  • Pain in the injection site or vein that is not improving over an 8-12 hour period
  • Headache that does not resolve with increased hydration or mild analgesics like aspirin, Tylenol, or ibuprofen.

If you are already on a blood thinning therapy such as Coumadin, Warfarin, Plavix, Heparin, daily Aspirin, or similar, please only use Acetaminophen or Tylenol-type pain relievers. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations when taking all over-the-counter medications.
